i have to say that I expected some more resistance from Leverkusen. Now I still went with a draw in the German Bundesliga prediction pool, but to be honest Leverkusen didn't deserve it. It was such a one-sided game. The passes completed. Sure against Bayern in the Allianz Arena, you can never expect to be on eye-level with them in terms of ball possession, but this is quite a bit too passive for Leverkusen. I know that they prefer to play counter attacks in these games against teams that love ball possession, but they are still Leverkusen and can maintain the ball within their own lines and play smart passes between the lines. This looks more like they used any opportunity to hoof the ball out of their own half of the pitch. That's very uncommon for them and they can be pretty happy about that one point.
In a difficult place, with a less impressive game, Leverkusen was still able to bring home 1 point. In my opinion, it was a strategy to dampen Bayern Munich attack line which was in top form. True, at first glance Leverkusen looked like they were playing to get a draw at the Allianz Arena, and they managed to do so. For Kompany, failing to get full points was a loss, because they should have been able to take advantage of the home game better. In the future, Kompany must try to experiment, so that his squad is able to create more creativity when facing a team that has a solid defense. The two goals scored in the match were very interesting, in my opinion it was truly sensational.
It was a loss without any doubt for Bayern and let's be clear, sometimes the defending team needs some luck to get through those tough games. But then again I sometimes think that apart from the good defense, it is the inability of the attacking team to score a good number of goals on that specific day. From the point of view of Bayern, this is concerning because it is not the first time that they run into trouble some time during the season when they suddenly can't convert their chances into goals as efficiently anymore. Now is this the beginning of such a period of time?
it is not the time for talking doom and gloom yet, but especially against the strongest opponents it is important to set an example because now they scored all these goals against Zagreb, Bremen and Kiel, but none of these goals is indicative of Bayern being able to play as efficiently against the real heavy weights. Nobody is surprised that they can destroy an opponent like Zagreb, but can they be a monster against the strongest? They couldn't be against Leverkusen for the time being.
