If we look at the statistics of the match, we can all see how Leverkusen was crushed. Leverkusen had only three shots in 90 minutes and scored one goal. If we look at the ball possession rate, they only had a ball possession rate of 30%, which is usually seen in second-class teams. I expected them to compete head-to-head with Bayern Munich. This match showed that Bayer Leverkusen will not be the champion this year. Bayern Munich will not leave any team alone on the way to the championship with this game. In fact, I think Bayern Munich will declare its championship a few weeks before the end of the league.
That's of course true, but to not only criticize them, it is important to note that it is a champion's quality to survive those games without defeat and with at least winning a point. And even crazier, everyone knows that for as long as the game is tied, Leverkusen for sure has the quality to land a lucky punch and that would have been a disaster for Bayern. A tied game against Leverkusen is damn dangerous despite being in full control.
So on the one hand Leverkusen got crushed as you said, but they were able to keep the clean sheet for the rest of the game after conceding that first goal, and on the other hand it is concerning that Bayern couldn't score despite this overwhelming advantage.
See how Arsenal fought back against Manchester City in the Premier League. Yes they conceded a goal in minute 98', but after that red card everyone thought they would lose the game and who knows whether the one point they were able to take away from the Etihad Stadium while being one man down could eventually win them the title. Same goes for Leverkusen. It is -2 for Bayern and +1 for Leverkusen so to say. It's not only about winning the point, but about making Bayern lose two points.
