They can't fire Ten Hag because they should have paid £17.5m compensation to him. I think that's why they chose to wait for a positive result. Instead of sacking him, and recruit a new caretaker until the season's end. It's a double-edged sword for them.

I wonder how much Manchester United have paid to all their sacked managers since Sir Alex Ferguson.

I don’t think the money is the challenge here. Manchester United do not want to bring another manager who will overhaul the current team and spend money buying new players who will suit his playing style. Changing managers will not bring immediate results but it is a start to the process of rebuilding the club.

It is true but bringing a new manager might change positively the situation in some situations too.
Manchester United doesn't lack the money nor the quality of the players. In fact I find them less motivated and their performance could be improved a lot under a new management. Ten Hag is doing his best, yet Manchester United will not move forward in English Premier League nor in European competitions under his management.
