Yes, I think in future there's possibility that governments might use blockchain way beyond financial apps. I guess Blockchain could be a good thing for storing citizens information and it could be much easy for governments to gain information with the help of blockchain instead of current mediums. I also believe that it could be great to store someone's birth date on blockchain as that could save such information for lifetime or way beyond that.
