Because there is no point on doing it now, the developers like everyone else have a limited amount of time and energy to dedicate to bitcoin, because of this it is better they use their time in features that improve bitcoin now, instead of doing an update that may not be needed for decades, but make no mistake, once the threat of quantum computers becomes tangible, the developers will deal with it in a timely fashion.
