Surprises in the champions league isn't new as it's something that happens almost often although it's on the final stages of the competition that things begin to take sharp and the usual clubs that we know are the biggest begins to win and finally lift the trophy. The last time an underdog won the trophy was when Chelsea won it against a very strong Manchester City. Since then It has always been the best teams that wins it. Dortmund tried last season but Real Madrid were just better than them and with their many years of experience and a very experienced manager, it helped them to lift the torphy, we're going to have more surprises this season but I don't think we'll get new winners.
That is the thing that made Champions League look special, because mostly toward the end of the season we always came across some upcoming teams that will came as a surprise, which some get success by luck. Although in Champions League mostly experienced teams are always at the top. Take and instance of last season no one expected Dortmund will make it to the finals, but they did, even though they didn’t win but at least they try there best. But for this season I know it will be very tough then we expect but let see how it will end.
This season it's hard for me to guess who will make it to the final, but a few favorite teams can always be identified.
Real Madrid and Manchester City are two favorite teams who can be counted on to progress from one stage to another until they reach the final, but we never know what will happen to them in the knockout stages this season.
Real Madrid has suffered 1 defeat in the group stage against Lille, while Manchester City was held to a draw by Inter in the first match. These two favorites did not get as smooth a result as expected, Bayern Munich was the same. At the top of the standings currently is Dortmund with 2 wins, while Liverpool and several other teams with the same points are in the position below. But there are still 6 matches in this round and we will find 8 of them qualify for the round of 16 and the other 16 will compete in the playoffs.
Real Madrid has a fantastic track record of scoring goals in the league, and despite some player injuries, they have consistently performed well in the Champions League. I feel Madrid or Manchester City are the top contenders to win the UCL this season. Liverpool is performing well and may win the UCL. They are currently leading the league and have a new coach who is strengthening the team effectively. Let's see what they'll do in the UCL vs Madrid if they meet.
If they can try and win Madrid I can say they can get the opportunity of winning the trophy, because Madrid is a big club and they are the best in the Champions League every season so if Liverpool can defeat madrid no one they can't win again because is real madrid is the boss in all competitions if they participated. But he won't be so easy for them to achieve the victory because Ancelotti is a great coach that is why madrid are processing every season since they have a better coach in the club.
