Talking about luck. Leicester can attest to that when they won themselves the English premier league back in 2015/2016 campaign. One could say this was more of a luck to them aside the hard work they putted in. There were the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and other top performing clubs then. But they went past all this clubs to become champions. So it’s clear luck plays a big roll when it comes to football.

Again can we say that luck has also played a huge role in winning the champions league back to back for Real Madrid, or there some kind of favoritism attached to it?
Pls someone help explain this to me.

One problem is that luck can be misunderstood. If a boxer has odds of 10.0 to win the fight and lands one lucky punch (there is a reason for that name), is it luck if he boxed against a triple world champion or so? It was weak by the champion to make a defensive mistake, but how often does the champion do that? Obviously hardly ever or otherwise the champion wouldn't be the champion. But do we call that luck or skill?

Regarding Leicester City, it's a great example and Leicester has played a season that they won't be able to repeat in a very long time. But when you look at the Premier League winners of the last 10 years, Leicester City would have never won the title in a different year with 81 points. It was the least number of points in the Premier League that led to the title win in a very long time! But still it was mind-blowing what Leicester City did because they did something nobody else was able to in that particular season. So I wouldn't call that luck despite the fact that 81 points are by far not enough if you look at the years when Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City took it to 100 points. Leicester was kind of dependent on the others to be weak. It's not like Manchester City when you could say that there was literally no way around them.

In the Champions League these lucky punches like in boxing play a much more important role. The last minute goal or a very questionable early red card. These are things that have an impact far more in the CL than in the PL (or any other domestic league).
