Let's face it, gambling companies are very easy targets for any politicians who need to divert attention from other problems at any time, nobody is going to be sticking up for them and it makes the government look tough. The reality is though, it's restricting what the citizens and driving betting underground where customers are more vulnerable to to the worst kinds of gambling organizations. It will likely end up with less revenue for the government, because people will still find their fix and probably take it offshore where the Brazilian government has no power at all. They are actually doing damage to themselves and every citizen by being so heavy handed like this.
That's not really the point here. If you check the source, there are still plenty of casinos allowed to operate, so I don’t think there’s a shortage that’d push gamblers into underground spots. The government is just shutting down those that don’t bring any benefit but keeping the ones that follow the new rules. So, the government hasn’t done anything wrong here - it’s the casinos that don’t want to comply that’ll lose out, and honestly, that seems fair.
More than 200 other sites will be allowed to continue to operate after agreeing to the new rules.
Surely there is nothing wrong with what the government are doing but it can be wrong if the money they are generating from the tax are not being used appropriately, it shouldn't be for only their selfish reasons but for the interest of the general public, if only the government can accomplish such plans of creating more awareness campaigns as regards to the risk of irresponsible gambling behaviors, imposing strick roles for the agents to be much able to know and monitor the bettors.
