I remember a friend making the argument that Altcoins can overcome Bitcoin because they can incorporate additional features or technologies that bitcoin does not offer, to which I responded with the view that there are many factors that might make it impossible for an Altcoin to overcome bitcoin.
If this is like in early years of Bitcoin, then perhaps we will see a altcoin going to challenge it, but we have moved past the 10 year mark and I doubt that there will be a altcoin that will come closer to what Bitcoin has achieved in the beginning. Although maybe some of you are not aware that during 2018's bear market, ETH and XRP has somewhat gain some traction and it was said that they are going to "Flippening" or "Rippening", but it didn't happened as the consensus is still with Bitcoin.
And although we could hear arguments that Bitcoin is already old or still using Proof of work (PoW), but that mechanism is what separates Bitcoin from the rest of the crypto's that we have known, and we have a lot of support from decentralized consensus mechanism.
