A lot of casinos try to lure people in with promises of free bets, free spins, or opportunities to play games without risking any money.  For someone new to gambling, it can sound pretty sweet - a chance to win real cash without having to put any of your own money on the line. 

But here's the thing: the chance you'll actually end up walking away from those promos with money in your pocket is slim to none.  The casinos aren't running a charity here and  if they gave away money left and right theyd go bankrupt!

So while getting something for nothing sounds nice, going into it thinking you'll score big is only going to lead to disappointment.  Better to keep realistic expectations.  Maybe you'll win a few bucks.  But more likely, you'll just have a little fun and then call it a day.
