Ok, I just don't agree with your original formula "distance = m * sqrt(range) where m = number of kangs", so if I have one million kangaroos I need to use one million larger jumps

There is no such formula on page 6.
My bad, the page layout was confusing. Page 13, last paragraph, before formula (6) (which looked like a page number instead).
