I'll not advise you to buy altcoins, there are so many of them and it is hard to select the one that would eventually give you ROI, because there are so many pump and dump altcoins. I will advise that you stick to your original plan of buying bitcoin using the DCA strategy, except you are ready to gamble with altcoins and it could prolly not end well for a newbie like yourself.
