I like paper money (because I'm an old fart). But it seems so out of date...

I'm also an old fart.

I prefer paper money too (including Bitcoin) because I like anonymity.

Every time you use a credit or debit card you're leaving a permanent record of who, when, where, what for, and how much. It's ironic that they call that a "paper trail". Cash transactions leave no such records.

Same goes for taxicabs versus Uber or Lyft. If I hail a cab on the street, specify a corner to be dropped off at and pay with cash, the driver doesn't know or care who I am or what my starting or destination addresses are. He's happy to get my fare and I'm happy to get where I'm going. In fact, he's probably happier to get his fare and tip in cash also, with less waiting and tax implications.

Cash rules.

Agree about cash on the privacy issue.

But holy crap, in American they are now making it almost impossible to acquire and use cash for things.

Recently I went on a short vacation, and thought to get some cash to carry along. But our local Bank branch office had closed. Had to drive around just to find an ATM machine, and pay the fee to get the cash. Could only get out a few hundred in cash.

The ATM machine only had $20 bills as the smallest denomination. I struggled to find someone who could even break a $20 to provide some $5's and $1's.

Same issue when trying to pay cash at one store: they didn't have enough small denominations and coins to even give us back our proper change! Had to switch to the card for the purchase.

Unfortunately, cash is going the way of the Dodo.
