If I have a bitcoin wallet on say Exodus, but something happens to the people that make Exodus, could I upload the 12 word private key on a different bitcoin hot wallet such as electrum and get my coins back?
You should be fine with Bitcoin recovery if seed words are correctly saved or exported, but there could be some differences with other coins in Exodus, and derivation paths.
In general I don't suggest anyone to use any closed source wallets including Exodus, there are available good open source alternatives.
Okay thanks for the information. I do like exodus, the concern is just about it being a closed source software. I decided if I begin using another wallet I'm just going to send it and pay the gas fee rather than try to import keys.
Gas fees?
There are no gas fees in bitcoin.
