That's just my assumption and indeed we don't expect that to happen because Pep Guardiola has turned Manchester City into an extraordinary club in the midst of such tight competition.
It's good to learn that you are assuming what you just said because it would never be a thoughtful idea for Manchester City management to think otherwise to sack Pep Guardiola as this time Manchester City is facing a bad time in football. If Pep Guardiola didn't get the problem that Manchester City is currently facing fixed, which coach will do that? Are they forgetting too early that Pep Guardiola is among the best coaches in the world? Having him sacked today, there will be big clubs who would like to sign him the next day to their clubs. In the end, Manchester City lost, and Pep Guardiola stands to gain a lot
Sacking Pep Guardiola would make things worse. Because as difficult as Man City are right now, they are still in a safe position in the EPL, it's just a matter of winning trophies, not an excuse to be bad overall. In the Champions League they can still qualify for the next round, so their current condition is not the end of everything.

But it is not going to be easy. I think they will make it to the playoffs, but they are now playing against Juventus Turin and PSG away from home. I don't think they would get 2 wins there. More like 2 draws or maybe even one defeat. It is still some time to go though as 2 of the last 3 Champions League games take place in January. Until then a lot of things might have improved. But still as Guardiola now said, this season is not going to be fun and I agree.

Anyone saw how he scratched his head and made his nose bloody? What the heck, he was going nuts on the sideline.
