economy is very hard this time around but that does not mean that people will not survive people must to surely survive under hardship because there will be a different method or application people will apply in order to survive under hardship, so many persons have different strategies they apply to survive without government especially people who is not working on that government have the means of surviving without government support but those of people who is working or being employed by the government on the also some companies that pay tax to government are the people that will complain of hardship because there are under government so I believe that there are people that only create another means that will favor them during experiencing of hardship in a country
We "survive" one way or another as a species if that's what we are talking about. Sure just because economy is bad, the human population will not end, but what happens right now is that we are way too overpopulated for this much wealth gap, and if we keep putting more wealth at the top, then we are going to face a lot more people stop breeding. Look at most nations, and you will see that they are not having 2.00+ birthrate, meaning that they are going to have less population in the future.

Most politicians talk about immigration for example, getting foreigners into your nation, some are pro-immigration and some are against it, but the way we are going, some nations will have such a little population that they will not have any other option than get those people, they will be forced to. So all in all, we can't consider this as a way to move forward, and for that reason we need to fix the economy if we want people to have 2 kids or more.
