I don't know where you're from, but in place where I live, I wouldn't say that things is getting worse here. I would say that significantly less people smoke nowadays than it was 15-20 years ago. It's not just people's mindset is changing, but it's also getting too expensive to smoke.
But on the other hand more people starting to smoke things like IQOS, vapes and weed also. Not sure what is more harmful, but trends is changing. Curreent generation ternagers don't even look at these old school cigarettes.
I have to admit too that the rate of smokers have drastically reduced over the years in my community and country at large, I notice that fewer people smokes now compared to many years back. The reason could be due to the anti smoking adverts like "smoking is dangerous to health" and "smokers are liable to die young", also we don't see cigarette adverts anyone. Besides, I hear that cigarettes are not cheap anymore but I don't think that this reason counts because the level of alcohol consumption has increased and it's not cheap either. What I've noticed is the number of people that smokes weeds, ice and vamp have increased, it might be due to peer pressure or escaping the reality of life's pressures.
