Regardless, this is a tough setback for Bayern Munich since getting kicked out of the DFB Pokal so early is always painful. Now Bayer Leverkusen has literally cracked the jackpot as they have now kicked out the fiercest competitor and went to the next round themselves. It couldn't have been any better for Leverkusen and now I think they are the biggest favorites to win this title.
Judging from Kompany's ability then I can conclude that he will have a hard time facing the competition in the knockout stages for the title and this will also have an impact on the competition in the Champions League which currently has a small chance. Getting knocked out of the DFB Pokal is quite a painful result because they looked so strong in the Bundesliga and maybe there are some things that need to be fixed by the management including the coach. Leverkusen are quite fortunate to have managed to eliminate Bayern Munich because now they are the favorite candidates in the DFB Pokal because the other teams are not much better than them.
It is painful to get kicked out of that competition so early and keep in mind that Bayern is a team that thrives based on the level of the competition. If they get kicked out early, it is not beneficial for the other competitions, it is rather slowing them down. The DFB Pokal is still an attractive title and it is the fastest one you can win as there are only single knockout rounds all the time.
The worst thing about this loss was that they were facing their toughest opponent in the DFB Pokal at home in the Allianz Arena. It couldn't have been any better, but Manuel Neuer's red card was too much to handle. I watched the scene again and I have to say Neuer's move wasn't very smart. He just crashed into the other player with the secondary goal to knock him out in case he misses the ball. It wasn't very smart to do it like that after 17 minutes. The Bayern defender was right behind the Leverkusen striker and it would have been difficult to make use of that opportunity anyway.
