If they were really guilty of the last paragraph of the article then it’s a nice move by the government to close down the business - no matter what they represent on the outside as long as they are really doing things like human trafficking and illegal drugs behind the scenes then it’s always god for government agencies to go after such companies.
But if that last part was just included just so the government would have a more appealing comments on what to talk about or their reasons for closing it down then that would be considered a shitting tactic but if they are really involved in trafficking humans the kudos to the government.
No, this was such a huge issue in the country that stems away from gambling honestly. To give a background, gambling is legal in the Philippines but not online gambling until a few years ago. Then president allowed for POGO to operate in the country believing that this will be an economic opportunity. Fast forward to today, the government started investigating POGO hubs when criminal activities such as scams and prostitution were reported. This then led to one of the craziest conspiracies in history.
Upon searching the compound where POGO operated, the authorities found documents pointing to the mayor of the city where the compound was located named Alice Guo. What supposedly was only just an investigation on criminal activities hidden under the guise of gambling operations led to investigation of the mayor's identity. It was a question whether the mayor was indeed a Filipino born citizen or a fugitive running away from China and sought out hideout in the Philippines. It has been said that the Filipinos who registered POGOs weren't actually real Filipinos and were only stolen identities.
Sorry for the sudden politics lecture but this is far from the government closing down gambling operations for the sake of just closing them. There were even questions of whether the mayor was a spy from China and other crazy theories. It is unfortunate that the online gambling industry is being scrutinized under this light but this issue is much bigger than that.
