The choice fell on a used red Aygo 2011, three cylinder engine, almost no car tax, cheap insurance and only takes 0,45 liters per Swedish mile (ten kilometers) although in the real world it's more like 0,5 to 0,55.
I don't think it's sold in North America, it's rather popular in England and here in Sweden there are not too few either.

It's fun to drive but it has that weird half auto gearbox where it actually by itself presses the clutch (no clutch pedal) when it changes gear, quite annoying.

Take care.

Good choice. That 3-cylinder, 1000cc engine is tried and tested, and has very good reliability. I also drive a Toyota with the same engine, and do not intend to change it even when Bitcoin reaches $1M. I always drive Japanese cars (and anything else Japanese, if I can find it), I'm in love with that country. No German cars for me, since the Volkswagen emissions scandal 10 years ago.

Your "new" Aygo will serve you well. You should expect the true fuel consumption to be around 6.0-6.5 liters/100 km (0.6-0.65 liters/10 km). About this particular automatic transmission, it's not the best, but it should be good enough.
