As @Palakka said, it doesn't matter if Girona has a bad performance this season because this is the first time Girona has competed in the UCL. Certainly Girona does not have the experience to manage the team as well as possible to perform consistently in several competitions.
And previously I also said last season that Girona good performance last season was just luck when the top teams were busy competing in more prestigious competitions and Girona was able to take advantage of the opportunity well. I also said that this season Girona will definitely have difficulties because the top teams are trying to improve their performance and Girona will not be able to compete like last season.
So there is no need to expect more from Girona to have the same level as Aston Villa.
They are having bad results at La Liga this season, which is the problem they have, I do not think that we should see that as good enough, that's not good enough at all. I understand them not having the greatest time at UCL, because it's their first time, and I believe every team would face hard time if it's their first time at UCL, but their "first" could be their "last" for a very long time if they keep getting worse every season.
They need to do better and they need to make sure they can at least join another European competition. Ideally, they would join UCL every season, become the fourth biggest team of Spain after Real Madrid, Barcelona and Athletico Madrid, that would be their goal, but even Europa would be good, and if nothing else, at least conference league, but right now they have none of those.
