How much salt should you 'eat' per day?

If you do a search on "how much salt per day?" (
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=how+much+salt+per+day%3F&ia=web
) you get an answer of 1,500 mg, with a max of 2,300 mg.
But if you do a search on "how much salt is in a saline solution bag?" (
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=how+much+salt+is+in+a+saline+solution+bag%3F&t=ffab&ia=web
) you get 9,000 mg per liter.
In an ambulance or in the hospital, they shove this bag of salt into you easily in a day. So why do they say to take a max of only 1,500 mg when you are on your own?
