I think you ruined yourself because you cannot control what you shouldn’t do in the first place. Recovering them back to gambling is impossible unless he is very lucky but I think its way more better if he recover it by hard working or do some investment like build a business and slowly recover them.
Addiction is the reason why he lose such a big amount if he is trying to recover it back again from casino or sports betting that's impossible we should only treat betting sites for fun not a source of profit or income.
