You  wouldn't blame your friend though,  because I myself has made a lot of unfulfilled promise. People get overly excited and make silly promise and failed after making such promise. so in such case I see it as normal. but in some case it reduces a person personality because your words or promise  may not be much valuable or respected by your friends.
I agree, we're like that. We make promises when the situation is in favor of us and when we wake up in the morning, we're knocked that we shouldn't have said that. One hi and hello would fix this bad feelings to our friends that we're very sorry that we should haven't said something to make you expect something in return and you won't be expecting any money anymore. But that friend that chose to avoid and get away with that friendship might be wise for him and a good riddance on your part too.
Failing to keep our promises can seriously damage our reputation. We might think it is okay because theyare our friends, but we never really know how they feel inside. That is why it’s better not to make any promises that we can’t keep because in the end, we are the ones who will suffer the consequences and blaming.

We all know that once trust is broken, it is hard to earn it back, especially when someone believed in us and have high expectations. One mistake could lose everything especially the trust we give.
