For me, I don't think it's fair to make an employee work during holidays. I think it should be voluntary - if you want to come to work, you can, but if you don't, you can stay home and celebrate with your family and friends.

it depends. you can't immediately conclude that it's unfair because each company has different circumstances. for example in hospitals, server providers, restaurants, factories, and other places that require workers who are on standby to keep the company running for 24 hours and ensure that people can be served properly. you can't say that people who work in these companies can take leave as they please and that is their right. they have a responsibility to work and when the company orders them to work it means they are ready to work that day; and they should have known the risks before signing up for the company.

but what needs to be emphasized here is compensation for that time because big holidays like Christmas or New Year are extraordinary days, and workers should get compensation for their dedication, whether it's in the form of bonuses or rewards outside of their salary.
