That is why I say that I plan, one way or another, never to retire, at least as long as my cognitive abilities allow me to do so.

I think you would like the Japanese way of thinking, because they are not exactly the type of people who like to retire, so a lot of people who are 70+ are still working. It has to do with one of their life philosophies called Ikigai.
I'm also not one of those who see retirement as something that consists of a lot of lounging around, watching TV, and endless conversations with people who are also retired. A person actually feels alive and valuable as long as he contributes in some way to society and the people in his immediate environment, so every new day should be considered a challenge.
