In my view OP has cosmetic way of looking at things. The shot cut to poverty is loafing  and inactive life rather than gambling.  Stirring imposed by gambling on people who have active live and have skills to make money in all possible ways may result in  enhancing  the  entrepreneur's streaks relevant to given characters. Thus, all depends on the given character. If the person is lazy per se then the  poverty at the end  no matter whether he is gambler or not .
If someone wanders around like a vagabond without working, then at the end of the day, there will definitely be pressure on them because who will pay for the expenses of running a family if they wander around without working.
Gambling plays a significant role in creating poverty in people, but if you live a more lazy life, it will not take long for you to become poor. There are many people around us who support their families with loans but live a lazy life without working, and they end up living in extreme misery at the end of their lives.

Clueless people will always find someone to blame for their troubles. They get poorer because a casino was built nearby, or their employer sets too high demands at work. Gambling is an amusement that has been present in society for almost as long as money and writing have existed. And throughout this time there have always been people who blame their troubles on gambling. Maybe it is time for such people to think about the fact that you can manage your life and play gambling for fun and not to beat the casino.
