Hot damn. I always knew that the IPL is still leagues away from the NFL and EPL, but the margin is way bigger than I anticipated. NFL leads in terms of overall revenue, but soccer leads in terms of overall popularity in my opinion.

IPL will most likely never catch up to them primarily thanks to the currency value difference.

USA is still the premium market. 4 out of the 5 richest leagues (NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL) originates from there. So I would not say that football is dominating the market. But it is true that Association football has the largest number of leagues among the top-100. IPL is just a minnow when compared to the American sports leagues or the EPL. Look at the case in England or Australia. Australian Football League (AFL) has annual revenue inflows of close to $1 billion, while for the BBL the comparable amount is around 1/10th of that. EPL has annual revenue inflow of $7.1 billion, while the same number for the Hundred is around 2% of that amount.
USA is without any doubt biggest economy with strong system for sports and many other things which are giving them good benefit for long time, and they are having leading sports with huge revenues but as India having market and potential about this is also good they can also develop, but sadly we have not strong system and structure which can bring success even now IPL is having good figures, but cricket is not like we need which is the biggest concern for the BCCI and sports authorities.

If we have few strong changes then surely we can have big changes and Indian economy can give good support to sports which as well will have better results and good fan base around the world which could be brought more revenues for them through media rights things can go even fast, but sadly our mindsets are not for these big decisions.
