In last year's T20 world cup, competition was held between 20 teams, but all the new teams except USA were thrashed against established teams, almost as if these new teams didn't belong there in the competition and viewers didn't give a shit about minnow team's matches either as stadiums were found empty.
What I mean to say is, it doesn't make much sense to increase the number of teams, if they are not actually adding to the competition.
20-24 teams would be ideal for the T20I World Cup. The last edition (2024) was a bad one for the minnow teams. One of the reasons is that the ICC funding has been reduced for teams that are mostly comprised of native players. The focus of ICC has shifted to richer boards such as United Arab Emirates and the United States, where expats make up the playing XI. For teams such as Nepal and Netherlands, the quality has gone down as a result of this. Also, remember that the current ICC fund distribution system is heavily biased against the associate nations.
