If you were retired, would you mind very much doing a job like participating in a paid signature campaign of the forum? I wouldn't, and even less if it's one of those that doesn't have a weekly minimum.
The signature campaigns here pay around 60 to 70$ per week to Hero/Legendary, 50$ per week to Senior and 40$ per week to Full member. For many people 70$ per week might not be a handsome money but in my region 70$ per week or 280$ per month is a good money. If I retire at age of 60 years and have ability to sit and write on computer then I wont mind joining the campaign since income from this signature campaign along with my pension will help me in living a good quality of life. I am currently Full member but I have time to make it to Legendary till the time I retire from my job.
If we think about physical jobs and people going through hardships to do them, like miners during the industrial revolution, then we will surely want to retire as soon as possible. But today there are many jobs that can be done with a computer. And if you have accumulated enough money to retire, you can also make a small investment to start a project that motivates you. That is why I say that I plan, one way or another, never to retire, at least as long as my cognitive abilities allow me to do so.
If you are referring to online jobs that one can do with computer while sitting at comfort of his home then I do agree that it's better to go for such jobs rather then doing some hard job that require physical exertion. If you have skill set and can provide some digital service then why not "be boss of your own". There are freelance platforms like Upwork where you can get work depending on your skill set. The only thing you need to constantly upgrade in this scenario is your skill set. Alvin Toffler has a quote that "
The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn".
