People who enjoy their jobs may not want to retire but let’s be honest here, how many people get up in the morning & enjoy going to work? Seems like a coping mechanism for people to say they don’t want to retire. I think if we were all offered a lottery win & to be able to travel the world, having fun every day, spending time with family instead, we would all take it.
Waking up every morning and rushing out when you are not yet tired or sleeping is enough reason to say, No, I can't do this anymore, but for the sake of the pay, you still have to be doing the job in order to keep everything running smoothly with the income you make from it. If you are working for someone, there is no way you will completely be in control of your time; that's not 100% possible, so at that point retirement will always come to the person's mind.
One can only consider not retiring when they work for themselves; you control your own time doing what you like doing, probably with the expansion of technology and remote jobs. If you work from the comfort of your home and at your own given time doing what you like and still get paid for doing it, then retirement won't be coming to your mind anytime soon.
