Is it still frowned upon to solicit merit for ones own post ?
It's safe to assume some people frown on it. I wouldn't ask for Merit on my own posts. In your case, it looks like you came back for trolling. Your post already shows you didn't read the thread.LoyceV has set some rules for it. He did not mention anything regarding reporting your own posts.
I mentioned not mentioning it:i would also suggest that a person should NOT post their OWN posts.
I didn't mention that on purpose: I'm okay with users showing a link to a good post of their own. They just risk ending up on my ignore list if the linked post isn't good. I'll change this if it's abused, but for now I keep all options open.But if you check this thread, some people already submitted their own posts for review in the past, and LoyceV did not delete them
What you're seeing is called survivor bias
