Sometimes some platforms can be good to make a refund if you contact the support most especially those that are paid into the wrong chain, I experienced that in an exchange when I sent in the wrong chain address and support told me to give them 3 working days and after the timeline, the money was released into my account so yes what you said is the truth.
But we have some sites that make dead-end mistakes if you send it to the wrong address you should consider your money gone and the warning is always boldly written to send warning signals to defaulters.
