Remittances are a huge part of the global economy but traditional money transfer services can be slow and expensive. Bitcoin offers a faster and more cost effective alternative. Could bitcoin disrupt the remittance industry and become the go to solution for cross border payments? What are the potential for bitcoin to change the way we send money internationally and what barriers still stand in the way of its widespread adoption for remittances?
Bitcoin exists for more than 15 years. Remittance services exist for more than 15 years. Did Bitcoin destroy(or disrupt) remittance services?
I haven't seen any fiat money transfer services doing bankrupt. There are two obstacles that stand in the way of Bitcoin. KYC and transaction fees going thru the roof, when the BTC blockchain gets stuck. KYC cannot be bypassed, if we want global adoption. The transaction fees will stay low, if the BTC blockchain doesn't get clogged with useless NFT stuff.
I've seen forum members asking "will Bitcoin destroy banks?" 7-8 years ago. The banks are doing just fine. The global fiat financial sector is just too big to get disrupted by crypto.
