It's crucial to bet on sports you enjoy and understand. Without that, you might end up just chasing losses or making random guesses, which often leads to losing money.

There are many gamblers that are vast in sports betting and they bet on different kids of sports games and that's also how often they are devoted in watching, reading and learning about the events and fixtures of those games. Although you are right that making guess on sports that one doesn't have knowledge about could lead to lose of more funds but some player are betting on those sports by using other players prediction.
This is exactly the kind of gaming behavior of a player who considers himself experienced, in my opinion, is wrong. To rely on someone else's opinion in those sports that you do not understand, this is a manifestation of an irresponsible attitude to your game. I do not think that truly experienced players place bets simply after reading or watching content on games that they do not understand from some third-party experts or forecasters. This somehow suppresses your own game and does not bring such pleasure. But this is how it is in my opinion. However, there may be another point of view, I admit it.
A sports bettor could try and experiment with doing that by spending a little bit of money and the results will show that it is not recommended to copy a bet from another person from a game that he have no knowledge at all. The most frustrating part here is if the results end up losing in a difference that is too big which could mean that he copied someone who might've also copied it from another.
There are very rare sports bettors now who really check the records and histories of the games and rely on them as their basis for why a team or a player will win that match. Most of the time they will just use the favorite odds that had been given by the sports bookie that they use. Let's not forget, that there's no assurance in betting for the favorite, especially in professional sports where every team or player can be as good as the other on a given day or night.

I bet regularly and I must say that there are not many scometors who are attentive to their scomemsse, indeed they have fun playing gambling in the real term of the word, but I must say that the analysis helps to take results, or at least you It gives help more, which is good, there are those who bet on visual dogs for example, you must be insane to do such a thing

what are some of the things you do to protect yourself from betting to much?
are you profitable over the long run or you end up losing more often and in bigger amounts than winning?

besides analysis I'd say that keeping track of your bets with a diary is definitely help, this way you have reliable data to check your progress over time
I also think that analyzing your bets is necessary simply to get an idea of how much money you can allocate for your game in the future. Simply because the manner and style of play, including the bet sizes, most likely become approximately the same or grow relatively slowly as the player gains experience. In my opinion, it is rare for anyone to play at a bookmaker with a gradual decrease in the bet size. But there are probably players whose life circumstances simply force them to reduce bets, or even just stop playing.

besides bet size I'd say that it is important to include the date (open and close), risk taken and some comment on your rational for making this bet
any other information you'd include on it?
I think this is valuable information that can help the reader and people new into gambling.
