I always say that we need strategy, money management and risk management, if we want to get profit from the game. If i play just for fun, to get positive emotions - i put two limits: money limit and time limit. When i reach one of them - i stop the game.
PS. Greed, self-control, strong Hearted - all these words are about gambling addicts. Lots of gamblers enjoy the game without any problems.
Indeed, if you have that capability then you are good to go since gambling needs self-control and that such skills to limit yourself from getting addicted, like what you mentioned, there are gamblers who enjoyed their participation without getting addicted gambler who knows their limits and not doing any excessive actions to go out of the line.
Though not many have that capabilities but it's on you, always have that self-will to control and manage to stop when you need to stop!
When you are gambling for fun and you do that only during your leisure time, you will be able to have self control over your gambling activities, because you are working. People that don't have jobs shouldn't gamble, because there is a high chance that majority of them will be gambling for profit, and that will make them game excessively.
Only gamble with an amount of money that you can afford to lose and stop the game at the right time, so that you don't get tempted to chase your losses and lose more.
It all depends on their intentions and goals in coming, meaning if they see gambling as a place that can only be used to relieve boredom in their spare time, then they will also automatically do things that are in accordance with what we often suggest, such as applying limits and controlling themselves in any situation, there will be no pressure at all for them to do so because from the start they only see gambling as a place of entertainment that does not have to be prioritized and that means of course they will not do things that lead to excessive aspects.
So it all depends on the intention and understanding, simply put, if for example from the start the priority is victory, then they will continue to be obsessed with that victory and it will be difficult to apply limits and self-control even though they already know that it is an action that should be applied in gambling.
