I work to live man. If i am comfortable with what i have then i certainly will retire. I have plenty of things i want to do in place of working, even if i like working. Mainly family and friends and maximizing time with them. There is only one thing you cant buy amd thats time. Once time has past thats it cant get it back. The obligation of having to do something is what would turn me off from not retiring. Control over every minute of my day, thats the dream.
I have tried to categorize work into two for the benefit of this discussion and the first type of work is the active type and the second is the passive type of work. What I mean by active type of work is the kind of job you do either by working as an employee under an individual or an organization being it skilled or unskilled labour. Whether you go to the office or as a remote job. It is all an active type of work because it will require you to meet deadlines and have a significant role to play in the development of the organization or business. As an individual, my wish is for me to retire as soon as I'm able to gather some significant amount of money to sustain myself and my family for years. By so doing, I'm able to invest in lifetime assets that I can stand to not only benefit from them alone but with my family.
As for Passive work, I would love to see myself seating in board meetings of my investment companies as an octagenarian, watching over how my children manage the resources of the family for the assets that have been built over the years when I was still very much active and working under people and for myself. With this, I'm still able to participate in the growth of my business and investments as well as that of my children in a more passive way, where you do not give me job to do or set deadline for me. Where I only appear whenever I'm bored and feel the need to show up or do some brain exercise. I will also love to be a veteran bitcoin investor during my old age, using my last years of retirement to understand the technical aspects of investment in Bitcoin.
Even before doing the present job am good at, I have also said to my self that I wouldn't be doing this job more than so numbers of years. Because I have big plans already. Retirement is very necessary to only those that have saved huge amount of money while working. Those who do not plan on retiring are those that don't have much on their savings account. Not all jobs pays pension money to their ex workers for long. So if planning to retire, one really needs to checkmate all those things so that it won't be hard for him her in future.
I planned to saved a lot of money which working before retiring and use the money I save to open a business or put on an investment.
I also share same mindset as yours, my intention whenever I land a government or private sector job is not to remain in the organization for 10 years stretch. My mindset tells me that remaining in one organization for a decade will give me all the necessary formal and informal knowledge that I require from the role I'm positioned and the entire workings of the organization.
Therefore, staying there after a decade will require my exit to another organization which will provide a bigger platform for me. In my 30 to 35 years of active service, I wish to transfer between a minimum of 3 organizations before my retirement. In between all of these, I will commit myself to strongly work on any savings and build my investments.
