Along these lines, it seems that much of the recent discussion in this thread is about whether or not to donate to archive.org. My suggestion is that instead of talking about the merits of this individual contribution we should be figuring out a process for choosing the charities.
 
I propose something like this:

Bitcoin100 members nominate charities
From the nomination list, members vote on and choose, let's say, 50 charities
Those 50 charities are sent email queries
The first charities to accept Bitcoin, from the selected list receive the first round of funding

The tricky part of this is that we have to approach a lot of charities in order to find at least 10 to donate to, but we don't want to alienate charities if we have more than ten that end up agreeing to accept Bitcoin.
