Don't do that. Never ever panic

You 're definitely right, but sometimes we don't think rationally, anyways.
Did you not test to see if it could still sign a transaction? Screens are expendable, but if it can still sign a transaction after a 20m drop, it means you can still access your funds (without the need to use your seed backup).
Why didn't you try to replace the screen? They're a few bucks on Aliexpress, and it would make a great project

In fact, I didn't use my seed backup. I signed a transaction easily with my Trezor, but I was (kinda) nervous because I was missing a few (just 2-3 characters) from what I was seeing written on the screen.
So, I validated that the output address was mostly correct (checked the first and last digits) and transferred the funds to another wallet.
My trezor, alongside my backup for it were destroyed.
I was happy I didn't have a metal backup because destroying a metal backup is painful.
People don't realise it, but it's one of the disadvantages of metal backups, that if you need to destroy it for any reason, it's not as easy as burning a piece of paper.
Disclaimer: I am not against metal backups in general. On the contrary, I think their advantages outweigh their pitfalls.
