Williams, who is averaging 16.0 points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. So that is a huge contribution if he can have this numbers in the Lakers uniform. It is also reported that Rob consulted with Luka about this trade and he was 100% down with that.
As per the report, Luka wanted a big men, like what he had in the Dallas uniform that he can ally-oop pass in Gafford and Lively. So expect the same plays that will screen for Luka and then that pass for a easy dunk.
The only problem that I see with Mark Williams is he's injury prone. Just for context, in the last 3 seasons that he's in the NBA, he only played around 85 games more or less and that's few considering how many games in total 3 seasons has. Aside from that, he's a great center, and he also got the starting position ahead of Hayes and Kleber and that shows how good he is currently.
He's a double-double machine and he average double-double in 9 of his last 10 games. Aside from him, the Lakers also has an athletic Hayes that can get those passes from Luka since he's a high-flyer as well. The Lakers might've lost a good developing player in Knecht, but they really need a paint defender after that shocking trade.
But Lakers is actually not worried about his past injuries and they continue to trust that Mark Williams will deliver. Also he's really a good fit knowing that there's two superstar that can lift his game to another level.
He's great center and provably that Williams will get a lot of improvements on Lakers. That's why many people are excited when they heard about Lakers is getting him since now they are confident that they have reliable defensive anchor that can help Lakers to win their games. They might not feel what Knecht left since they still have good shooters that can fill what he left from his team. What Lakers really need is a solid defender and they already get that with Mark Williams presence.
