Got it from the HELP > POSTING BBC_BulletinBoardCodes
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=help;page=post#bbcref
Yes, it's part of the bbcode tag for any SMF forum or any bbcode-based forum, but just like I said, it wasn't available or even known to any user here to be used before. Also, all moving images (.gif and .apng) in the forum were disabled, including this one, of course for the same reason (annoying for some or most users)

Theymos disabled it.

I just disabled marquee board-wide. I don't see any use for it.

The reason he mentioned it is "he doesn't see any use for it" is now too old. He disabled it back in 2011, and it's 2025 now. I don't know if signature was a thing back then, but if it was enabled, I am sure campaign managers would use this tag for their signature campaigns. As some of us are familiar with the other forum, we see that campaign managers actually use this BBCode in most signatures and it's not bad to be honest. It's been 13 long years and since people did not feel the need of that bbcode, let it remain like how it is now.

I had to look up what it's about:
The <marquee> HTML element is used to insert a scrolling area of text.

if it was enabled, I am sure campaign managers would use this tag for their signature campaigns.
Let's not do that! Theymos disabled animated avatars for exactly the same reason: blinking things drawing your attention is very annoying. Every time I use a new browser without adblocker, I'm reminded of how terrible websites are with everything blinking and moving. I don't want that in a book, and I don't want it on my screen.

Just like some other members here have mentioned, Theymos actually disabled it. I think back then animated avatars too were still in use and basically even newbies were able to upload an avatar back then but it made the forum messy. One basic thing I like about the forum is how simple it's interface is .

If everything is animated, the concept may seem fun at first however given the fact that this forum is a place for important and serious discussions, a flashy interface won't look cool.

Yeah old marquee tag... it reminds me of old days of GeoCities I used to abuse this tag so badly!!!!

if it was enabled, I am sure campaign managers would use this tag for their signature campaigns.

Don't worry guys it will be available in new the software Epochtalk

Theymos disabled it.

I did not know it.  Cheesy

I am not surprised that theymos disabled it because the head admin is like an old-school man, and he is uncomfortable with animated things. LoyceV pointed that the head admin disabled animated avatars because he felt it is annoying experience.

Here is his announcement.
OK, APNGs are now detected. Old ones are grandfathered for now, in part because people have ongoing campaigns, but in the future I might (or might not) go through and remove them.

It is time to add this change into Bitcointalk's important historic changes.

Don't worry guys it will be available in new the software Epochtalk
Don't try to trigger theymos  Cheesy Cheesy
That's a another level of trolling theymos on the new forum software announcement.

I had to look up what it's about:

It's like the moving headlines from right to left in the bottom in evey tv news.

As explained above, it is disabled but why are you interested in it or what do you want to use it for?.

Don't worry guys it will be available in new the software Epochtalk
That's a next level trolling when we can really see the announcement made by theymos that he will stop pursuing epochtalk since the developments are going nowhere and it will be only a waste of time it theymos will continue to spend more money to it. I would do the same if it were me even if I am not am expert about websites or how to create it and removed bugs. Tongue

Thank you all.
Was just checking to see why would it be in the help post if its no longer relevant. Also I may have found something that isnt listed there that is still working.
