Adana Demirspor players left the pitch in their Turkish Super Lig game at Galatasaray today in protest against a penalty that were awarded to the home team. It was later that the club president issued a statement saying that the players didn't leave the pitch to protest against Galatasaray but against the referee board. The visitors who currently occupy the bottom position in the league went behind when Alvaro Morata scored a penalty in the 12 minute of the game but continued playing until when the club manager signalled to them to leave the pitch.
The ball is now in the court of the Turkish football FA to address the issue and punish any party that deserves to be punished.
I was thinking that football have passed this stage and mainly focused on the fun and unity, little did I know that I was wrong. I was completely disappointed at the team for setting such a terrible record of quitting a match people bought ticket to watch just because they awarded a penalty against them. Even without the penalty, there is no way they will win Galatasaray so they would have still lost the match. I just hope they are properly punished for that to prevent other teams from embarking on such protest.
