Adana Demirspor players left the pitch in their Turkish Super Lig game at Galatasaray today in protest against a penalty that were awarded to the home team. It was later that the club president issued a statement saying that the players didn't leave the pitch to protest against Galatasaray but against the referee board. The visitors who currently occupy the bottom position in the league went behind when Alvaro Morata scored a penalty in the 12 minute of the game but continued playing until when the club manager signalled to them to leave the pitch.
The ball is now in the court of the Turkish football FA to address the issue and punish any party that deserves to be punished.
Does such thing still happens in europe's top flight league? I've not seen something like this in recent times except in cases of unfavourable weather conditions. I guess Adana Demirspor were trying to make a statement but they're going to be fined for it. Choosing to abandon the match is not the best way to handle such situation. If they feel the referee's decision to award Galatasaray a penalty was unfair, they would have laid an official complaint after the match and the FA would look into it and take the required action.
