Don't be too fast in forgetting that Manchester City is a former winner of the champions league. If they are having issues now, or not getting the result they are known for does not mean that they are a terrible team against big sides every other year. They might have lost the match yesterday but they performed exceptionally well, scoring first before Real Madrid equalized and finally got the late goal that made them win the match. I have the feeling that the champions league match will energize Manchester City a lot as they play their Premier league match this weekend.
