If I want to HODL, I'll definitely choose a single wallet and I'll try to focus all of my resources on it. I think it's better to protect one strong entity instead of multiple entities. It's easier to focus on one thing instead of many things. When you have a single wallet, you have a single responsibility of taking care of this wallet. By having multiple wallets, you have to keep in mind that you have to protect 2 or more wallets at the same time instead of one.
I prefer quality over quantity.
You don't have to dedicate your life to store your bitcoin in one wallet and secure it. Advice is "Never put all your eggs in one basket" that is applicable with Bitcoin fund and Bitcoin wallet too.

I prefer to store my bitcoin in a hardware wallet for holding and long term storage, and one or two more wallets with at least one wallet as hot wallet that I can bring it around with me and use my bitcoin, just in case I need spending bitcoin for something. This hot wallet is small in value definitely.

Just buy a ColdCard or Passport wallet and focus on that one.
