I'm not superstitious most of the times, and I frequently select the automatic filling option with random numbers so as not to waste time, instead of selecting them by hand. In the end, the chances are always the same no matter the numbers you choose. But I'm asking this question because there are times when I prefer to follow my inspiration and select "special" numbers, or avoid "ugly" ones.

Following your gut feeling is real and generally refers more to cultural or psychological factors than probabilities. So, even though the game itself is random and equally likely, our choices are far from random. Our brain believes that those choices are the most probable, using previous experiences or familiar numbers as guides, unconsciously. There are studies where people are asked to choose a number between 1 and 100, and the highest percentage of selections goes to the number '37'.
