I don't believe that and it's very difficult to find people who would be attracted to gambling without the desire to make a profit. All the people I have seen in my area are attracted to gambling solely for the greed of making a profit. In reality, I have not found such a knowledgeable and professional gambler who is only attracted to gambling for fun.
How about category of people who are ready to spend money? Such people come to gambling not to lose, not to make profit, but to spend money on entertainment. It is like going on a show for them. They pay for entrance ticket, they see action, they get entertained, they spend some of their time and go home or close casino webpage. Suppose you go on a fair, or travelling attraction park visit your place. You go there with intention to have fun. Even if you play game like throw a ball in cans and win a prize, you do it for fun, spend money on having fun. You dont necessary focus on hitting every can and winning biggest prize. Even if you miss and lose, you dont find yourself disappointed much.
Gambling is a different type of entertainment where there is only a few people who can really have no interest of earning money from gambling. The example you gave about someone buying a ticket for a show is a different thing, that kind of entertainment can be very enjoyable but in the aspect of gambling, it can make the gambler to feel upset about their losses and they can angrily quit or chase losses or even become addicted.
