Several countries and regulatory bodies have banned the use of Chinese technology due to concerns about its impact on national security and data privacy. The story began when the US government began attacking TikTok and calling on its owner to sell it to an American company.
Other countries have issued warnings about the Chinese app without banning it entirely.
In an interview with Bloomberg, the UK’s Minister for Artificial Intelligence, Ferial Clarke, said: “It is ultimately up to the individual to decide whether or not to download the app. But my advice is for users to be aware of the potential risks and understand how their data is being used."
I think there's a bigger reason beyond data privacy and national security risks. I believe it’s more about competition, the U.S. simply doesn’t want to be outshined by the success of a Chinese app. All they do is throw accusations, because if there were really a threat, it would have been reported back when the app wasn’t popular yet. So why are they making these claims only now that the app is widely used? It’s just like what happened with TikTok.
The application represents advanced technology compared to its American counterpart, so it is natural for America to attack it and try to impose restrictions on it, including encouraging its allies to limit the use of the application and thus trying to prove its danger. This does not mean that the application is 100% safe or that it is somewhat honest because no one knows how Deepseek can use the data that users share with them. At the same time, all the accusations directed at Deepseek can be directed at American applications, especially since they are closed source applications, while Deepseek is open source.
