A very good strategy by your description, in as much as there's actually no exact pattern or sure strategy that is void of you loosing at some point. But then taking the bet on the players will be a very good option to explore as it will give you a better chance even to win your bets more often than you will if you make outright bets on the teams.

Loosing is very much part of the game you know. If you’re always winning, I don’t think that would bring much fun to gambling. The anxiety wouldn’t be there you know.
You need to be scared of loses and that would push you to be better at predicting you know, governing much consideration to even the least of details because, you wouldn’t want to loose. It doesn’t matter what strategy you gamble with, you would always be open to looses so, embrace it.
