So the question is: you don't care about the numbers and fill them automatically, as they all have the same chances to win, or you tend to pick your preferred ones (birthdays, favourite numbers,...) manually?

I think that people always prefer to pick up their "lucky" numbers (like birthdays for instance) because they believe that those numbers are very   significant  for them though all numbers are statistically equivalent. . I will give you an insider look at one of numerous  cases from my practice when the patient flatly refused to be placed into any ward numbered differently with his birthday. Thank you for bringing a different case that has nothing to do with gambling but is very illustrative for our topic. In the case you mentioned it seems that picking up these numbers contributes to the patient's peace of mind (their health is at stake, so it is an important "bet" for them somehow).



I was thinking in another theory, and it's the one about the gambler imagining himself in the future telling his relatives, for example, that he won thanks to their birthdays. Choosing these special numbers would be like taking the necessary steps not only to win, but to create a beautiful story to remember and tell to others.
